iMemories vs Costco: What Each Digitizing Page States

Can we recommend a winner?

No. This iMemories vs Costco comparison uses each seller's own pages, read on September 12, 2026, not a trial order. It also has a limit you should know before reading on. Costco's own site says its members get media digitization through a partner, Capture, and Costco's member-services page says access to Costco Next storefronts is no longer available. Capture's page says the Costco Next platform ended on August 31 and that former Costco customers can register for the same pricing at capture.com. So on the day we checked, there was no Costco-run digitizing page with prices to compare. We report what each page states and stop there.

Where the two sides differ

• Who does the work: iMemories digitizes in its own lab. Costco's page names Capture as the provider for its members.
• Where you order: iMemories sells through its offer page. Costco's storefront for Capture is stated to be closed; Capture says to order at capture.com with a member code.
• Stated prices: iMemories lists per-item prices on its page. Costco's pages we could read show no prices.
• Formats: iMemories lists film gauges, tape formats, and photo types by name. Capture's Costco page lists video, film, photo, and digital media transfer as categories without naming formats.
• Turnaround: iMemories states 2 to 3 weeks. Neither Costco page states a turnaround.
• Files back: iMemories states a free download plus paid app, USB, and disc options. Capture states digital download and 90 days of free cloud access.

What the iMemories seller says

These points come from the iMemories offer page as read on September 12, 2026. They are the seller's statements, not our findings.

• Formats: 8 mm, Super 8, and 16 mm film; Betamax, VHS, VHS-C, 8 mm, Hi8, Digital 8, MiniDV, and MicroMini tapes; prints, slides, and negatives.
• Process: a SafeShip Kit with a crush-proof box, waterproof bags, shock-resistant cushions, and free FedEx shipping to iMemories. The maker says no sorting or labeling is needed.
• Kit capacity: the page gives counts per format, for example 30 VHS tapes or 1,500 prints per kit.
• Prices: $14.99 per videotape, $14.99 per 50 feet of film, and $0.49 per photo.
• Optional enhancement: McKenzie AI, shown at $4.99 per tape or 50 feet of film and 15 cents per photo, with higher prices struck through.
• Getting files back: free download of digital masters; iMemories Cloud app at $7.99 per month or $49.99 per year; USB from $19.99; DVD or Blu-ray at $9.99 per disc, each shown against a higher struck-through price.
• Turnaround: the maker says 2 to 3 weeks until files are available in its app.
• Promotion: the page repeats an order-now-and-save-50-percent offer. What the 50 percent applies to is not itemized.

The page also claims it has never lost a memory, states large customer and review counts, and says its AI gives up to three times the clarity. We have not verified any of those and do not repeat them as fact.

What the Costco pages say

These points come from Costco's own customer-service pages and Capture's Costco page as read on September 12, 2026.

• Costco's transfer-service answer, dated August 30, 2023 on the page, states that Costco members receive exclusive value on media digitization from Capture and links onward.
• Costco's Costco Next member-services page states that access to Costco Next storefronts is no longer available and lists vendor contacts for returns and warranty questions.
• Capture's Costco page states the Costco Next platform is no longer active as of August 31, that former Costco customers can register for a personal code to keep Costco member pricing, and that the code does not expire.
• Capture's page lists a prepaid shipping label from $12.99, 90 days of free cloud access, tape repair included when needed, no charge for blank tapes, and a quality guarantee it describes as redoing the work at no cost.
• Capture's page describes a three-step process: pack and ship, digitize, then download files and receive originals back.
• Costco's product listing on costco.com returned an access-denied error when we tried to read it, so we cannot report what it says.

Neither Costco page states per-item prices, accepted formats by name, turnaround, or a return policy for the digitizing service.

What neither page states

• A current Costco-run price list for digitizing, or what "member pricing" is in dollars.
• Whether iMemories' 50 percent promotion applies to every line item, or when it ends.
• What happens to originals that cannot be read, and whether either side charges for them. Capture states no charge for blank tapes; iMemories does not address it.
• Return or refund terms for a completed iMemories order.
• Any independent measure of scan or transfer quality for either provider.

Questions to settle before choosing

Formats and quantity

List every format you have and count the items. Check each provider's stated format list against yours, and price the whole batch, including any enhancement or delivery add-ons.

How you want the files back

Decide whether a free download is enough or whether you want a USB, disc, or streaming app, and add those costs to the estimate.

Purchase conditions

Confirm where you are actually ordering, what the guarantee covers, and how originals are shipped back. A quality guarantee is a purchase condition, not evidence of quality.
